Mission

SISTORIES is a queer Black feminist storysharing organization based out of Charlotte, NC. We believe the archival narratives of Southern Black women, femmes, and gender-expansive people hold the keys to unpacking how systems of oppression affect our bodies, communities, and spirits. Through the art of developing, sharing, and studying our stories we mobilize our voices in the fight for liberation.

When you make these trips back south...what is it exactly that you’re looking for?

A wholeness...because everything around me is split up, deliberately split up. History split up, literature split up, and people are split up too....I believe that the truth about any subject comes when all the sides of the story are put together, and all their different meanings make a new one. Each writer tells the missing part to the other writers’ story. And the whole story is what I’m after.

Vision

We’re an arts + healing justice organization committed to nurturing the creative and holistic spirits of Black women and femmes by developing, sharing, and studying our stories. We believe the archival narratives of Southern Black women, femmes, and gender-expansive people hold the keys to resisting and recovering from how systems of oppression show up in our community’s bodies and spirits. We envision a world where every Black woman is free to live whole, self-determined, and joyous lives.
