Once Upon a Time

Paper is an extension of my physical and spiritual self. As an analog collagist, I build words in which Black people exist freely within the land, among the stars and everywhere in between. My work seeks to explore the beauties and complexities of being an imaginative Black queer woman and descendent of farmers who chose to remain in rural Georgia to grow, thrive and create. I rely on current and archival images of my people and surround them with vibrant colors and details as a way to explore the juxtaposition of the past, present and future existing simultaneously–a visual representation of how ancestral stories were passed down to me, how my life will contribute to those stories, and how they will carry on after I am gone.
